On Oct. 27, 2016, the U.S. Justice Department announces that they are charging 61 people and entities for fraud. According to the Justice Department these people called from India-based call centers and impersonated the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), demanding money for non-existing debts. The scam began in 2013 and reaped a total of $300 million from 15,000 victims. Five call centers and 32 people in India are charged. Meanwhile in the United States, 24 people will be tried in U.S. District Court in Texas.
