Google Won’t Renew Pentagon Contract
On June 1, Google announced that it would not be renewing its controversial contract with the Defense Department. Currently, Google is working on Project Maven, which uses artificial intelligence to enhance drone strikes, and the company is committed to the project until March 2019. Many employees have protested since the signing of the contract. (CNN)

New Breast Cancer Therapy
On June 4, a new therapy for breast cancer saved a terminal woman. The technology is described as a “living drug” and is still in its experimental phase. Dr. Steven Rosenberg continues to test the experiment. (BBC)

Microsoft Buys Github Site
On June 4, Microsoft announced that it would buy Github for $7.5 billion. Github is a code-sharing site that allows coders to collaborate. (BBC)

Facebook Bug Affected 14 Million Users
On June 7, it was announced that a bug in May set 14 million Facebook users’ profiles to public. The company has stated that since finding the bug, they went back and changed all the privacy settings affected. (CNN)

New CEO for Verizon
On June 8, Verizon announced its new CEO will be Hans Vestberg. Vestberg will take over on August 1, and lead the plans to build a 5G wireless broadband network. (CNN)

AT&T Closes Time Warner Deal
On June 14, AT&T closed the deal to acquire Time Warner for $85 billion. The deal can still be appealed by the Justice Department in the next 60 days. (Reuters)

On June 20, a committee voted to accept the major changes to the European copyright law. Article 13 has been very controversial, as it could lead to the end of memes, remixes, and other content. The European Parliament will vote on the bill in July. (BBC)

Ticketmaster Part of Hack Attack
On June 28, Ticketmaster warned its clients that the site fell victim to a hack attack in April. The company claimed to not be aware of the breach until June, when it promptly sought out a solution. (BBC)
