Lyman LAW, Congress, CT (1770-1842)
LAW Lyman , a Representative from Connecticut; born in New London, Conn., August 19, 1770; pursued classical studies and was graduated from Yale College in 1791; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1793 and commenced practice in New London; member of the State house of representatives in 1801, 1802, 1806, 1809, 1810, 1819, and 1826, and served as speaker in 1806, 1809, and 1810; elected as a Federalist to the Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Fourteenth Congresses (March 4, 1811-March 3, 1817); resumed the practice of his profession; died in New London, Conn., February 3, 1842; interment in the ``Second Burial Ground''; reinterment in Cedar Grove Cemetery in 1851.
