Tell us about your work -- what do you do? Assess patient's condition, administer drugs as directed, alert physicians of any changes in the medical status of the patient and document vital signs, concerns. What skills are needed? Good assessment skills while looking at and speaking with the patients . What was your major? Nursing and psychology for nursing . How did you get started in your career? I felt the need to help people in times of medical need. I loved biology and was intrigued by the body organ functions. What experience do you need in this job? Clinical practice according to class schedule. Hospital orientation as required by employer. Describe your "typical" workday: Get acquainted with assigned patients . Take vitals and document. Administer medications , assist patients as needed. Take care of duties as needed: dressing changes , diabetes checks , IVs , etc. What is the hardest aspect of your job? Watching a person's health condition deteriorate despite all of the medications and efforts of the doctors and the staff. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Watching a person's health condition improve. What are your suggestions for someone considering this field? Please show compassion for people who are ill and failing.
