Shootout in Northern Mexico
On December 2, twenty-two people were killed after a shootout between officials and suspected members of the drug cartel. The shootout took place in Northern Mexico. (CNN)

Sudan Factory Fire
On December 4, a fire triggered an explosion at a Sudan factory, killing at least 23 people and wounding another 130. A committee has been set up to investigate the incident. (CNN)

Iraq Protests Continue
On December 6, a gunman opened fire and several vehicles went into the crowd of protestors in Baghdad. The attack killed 12 people and wounded another 22. The attackers have not been identified as of late. (CNN)

Factory Fire in Delhi
On December 8, a factory building in Delhi caught fire, killing 43 workers. Over 100 people were sleeping in the factory when it caught fire. The fire is under investigation. (CNN)

World’s Youngest Prime Minister Elected in Finland
On December 9, Finland elected Sanna Marin as Prime Minister, making her the world’s youngest. Marin will be sworn in on December 10. (CNN)

Hotel Attack in Somalia
On December 10, gunmen entered a hotel in Mogadishu, leading to a seven-hour battle between them and security forces. The battle left five people dead, two soldiers and three civilians. Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack. (CNN)

Controversial Citizenship Bill in India
On December 11, India became one step closer to passing a bill that gives citizenship to immigrants from three neighboring countries, but not if they are Muslim. Opposition parties claim the bill is unconstitutional because it is biased towards religion. The bill has sparked protests. (CNN)

Protests Continue in Lebanon
On December 14, the Lebanon crisis continued as anti-government protests escalated in Beirut. Dozens of people have been injured as police and protestors clashed. (BBC)

Shooting in Moscow
On December 19, a gunman opened fire in front of Moscow’s Intelligence HQ. At least 1 person died and 5 were injured during the shooting. Videos of the shooting were found on social media pages. The suspect has been “neutralized.” (CNN)

India Protests Escalate
On December 21, the death toll in the India protests rose to 18 after 10 people were killed, 9 of whom were by gunshot and one was a child hit with a stone. The protests are due to the controversial citizen law passed earlier. (CNN)

Guns Handed Over During New Zealand Amnesty
On December 21, nearly 56,000 guns were handed over during New Zealand amnesty. The semi-automatic gun ban was set in place after the Christchurch shooting that left 51 people dead earlier this year. (BBC)

Julie Berman Murdered in Toronto
On December 27, trans-rights activist Julie Berman was murdered in Toronto. A 29-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with second degree murder. (CNN)

Somalia Car Bomb Attack
On December 28, a car bomb exploded in Somalia’s capital, killing 78 people and injuring another 125. The attack occurred during rush hour. No group has claimed responsibility thus far. (CNN)

US Embassy Attacked in Iraq
On December 31, the US Embassy in Baghdad was attacked by pro-Iranian protesters. The attack came after the US launched airstrikes in Syria and Iraq a few days prior, hitting some Iran militia. The protest has created more tension between the US and Iran. (CNN)
