Friday, March 31, 2023 — Finland is set to become the 31st member of NATO, after the Turkish parliament approved its application in a vote. Finland’s bid to join the West’s defensive alliance was delayed for months by Turkey, complaining that the country was supporting terrorists.
Finland’s admission into NATO will be made official at its next summit, which will take place in July, in Lithuania. The Secretary-General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said on Twitter that he “looks forward to raising Finland’s flag at NATO Headquarters in the coming days.”
Earlier this month, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip, approved Finland’s bid and praised the country’s authentic and concrete steps on Turkish security.
Finland will now become the seventh NATO country on the Baltic Sea, further isolating Russia’s coastal access at St. Petersburg.

Germany To Shut Down The Remaining Three Nuclear Power Stations
Saturday, April 15, 2023 – Germany is set to shut down its remaining three nuclear power stations this Saturday. This comes 12 years after the Fukushima disaster in Japan made the country accelerate its exit from atomic energy.
The facilities that will be shut down are in Emsland, in the northern state of Lower Saxony, the Isar 2 site in Bavaria, and the third one in Neckarwestheim, in Baden-Wurttemberg in the southwest.
Last year, the closure of the three sites was delayed by Germany, which then provided close to 6.5% of the electricity in the country in 2022 after European gas supplies were reduced by Russia, which triggered concerns about an energy shortage over the winter.
The decision of Germany to abandon nuclear power is different from the ambition of the government of the United Kingdom, which kickstarted a fresh push into nuclear power last week.
