With El Corazon, Steve Earle completes a remarkable triad that began shortly after his 1994 release from prison on heroin charges. He paints some unforgettable scenes here, from the disillusioned world without heroes in the album's opener, “Christmas in Washington,” to the violent story of racism and injustice in “Taneytown.” The disc also includes notable collaborations with The Fairfield Four on “Telephone Road,” and Siobhan Kennedy on “Poison Lovers.” Earle tops off this triumphant disc with “Here I Am,” a guitar-crushing bit of feedback-laced power pop that leaves his contemporaries in the dust.
