If you think Macauley Culkin ingeniously pieced together an impressive stash of Rube Goldberg-like contraptions to fend off intruders, wait until you see the “Omen with whiskers” at work. When Ernie (Lane) and Lars (Evans) Smuntz inherit their string-magnate father's mansion, they think they're home alone. Boy, are they wrong. A vermin runs the house and wants the bumbling brothers out. The Smuntz boys need to restore the mansion, an architectural masterpiece, in order to sell it for big bucks. When their mouse hunt proves painfully futile, they look to a furtive feline called Catzilla and a maniacal exterminator (Walken). Though there are plenty of holes in the script (think Swiss cheese), DreamWorks's first foray into family film shows some promise.
