Saturday Night Live comedian turned sitcom star David Spade has scraped out a career as a sardonic heckler whose barbs of wit stick snidely into any opponent. Now picture him as the lead lover in a romantic comedy directed by Booty Call's Jeff Pollack. Add a disastrous pile of scatological canine humor and you'll have Lost & Found. Spade plays the uptight restaurateur falling for his French cellist neighbor (Sophie Marceau). In efforts to win her favor he embarks upon a ridiculous dognapping scheme involving a John Candy-meets-Chris Farley sidekick. For Lost & Found to succeed, Spade must be warm, romantic, and funny for an extended period of time. This is a tall task for a man whose talents work best in quick, snappish skits. Dull echoes of There's Something About Mary further detract from the film.
