This modern rendition of Charles Dicken's novel starring Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow is bold, brash and decidedly un-Dickensian. The Americanized setting and character revisions would make the dear old author turn over in his grave. Nonetheless, Cuaron's lavish style succeeds in making this classic tale of desire as irresistible as ever.
