The ongoing transfer of 100 years of film history to videocassette and laserdisc means that it is possible to treat cinema as we do books. This alphabetical list is meant to suggest time periods, genres, actors and directors that you should consider for a home-video library. Your list of meaningful movies, just like your library of books, will represent your own taste, but this section may be a helpful guide or at least a rental reminder if you've missed any of these classics.
