Georgia Frontiere Biography
Georgia Frontiere was the first woman to own a National Football League team, the Los Angeles Rams. She owned the Rams for almost 30 years after the death of her husband, Carroll Rosenbloom, in April 1979. Although Rosenbloom had taught his son from another marriage the business, he left 70 percent of the company to Frontiere. She quickly took control, fired his son, and hired Don Klosterman as the team's general manager. The Rams went to the Superbowl in 1980, but lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her greatest impact on the team was when she moved the Rams to St. Louis in 1995. They won the Superbowl in 2000 against the Tennessee Titans, and lost in 2002 to the New England Patriots. Frontiere donated a great deal of money to charities and was a patron of the arts during her life.
