reporter for Time magazine, was held in contempt of court and jailed in August for refusing to name the government official who revealed to him the identity of an undercover CIA official, Valerie Plame. Time magazine was also declared in contempt and fined $1,000 a day. Both parties appealed the decision. The ruling was part of a Justice Department investigation into whether someone in the Bush administration revealed Plame's identity to the media, possibly in retaliation for an opinion piece her husband, Joseph Wilson, wrote in July 2003 in the New York Times. Wilson discredited President Bush's claim that Iraq attempted to buy uranium from Niger.
