Archibald LYBRAND, Congress, OH (1840-1910)

LYBRAND Archibald , a Representative from Ohio; born in Tarlton, Pickaway County, Ohio, May 23, 1840; moved to Delaware, Ohio, in 1857; attended the common schools and the Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware; during the Civil War enlisted in the Union Army April 26, 1861, and served in Company I, Fourth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry; transferred to Company E, Seventy-third Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and promoted to first lieutenant; commissioned captain; remained in service three years; returned to Delaware, Ohio; mayor of Delaware in 1869; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1871; landowner and engaged in agricultural and mercantile pursuits; postmaster of Delaware 1881-1885; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fifth and Fifty-sixth Congresses (March 4, 1897-March 3, 1901); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1900; resumed business activities in Delaware, Ohio; died in Daytona, Fla., February 7, 1910; interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware, Ohio.
