Age: 78feisty Detroit Red Wings forward partly responsible for one of the most famous goals in NHL history; credited with the goal that was accidentally knocked into the Montreal net in OT of Game 7, claiming the 1954 Stanley Cup for Detroit; won titles with Detroit in 1952 and 1955 as well; nicknamed "Mighty Mouse" for his small stature and hard-nosed checking; broke into the pros with the N.Y. Rangers in 1945 and played there six seasons before being traded to Detroit in 1951; compiled 868 penalty minutes, 165 goals and 159 assists in 740 regular-season games. He died from cancer.
