Gwendolyn Brooks

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet whose socio-political works chronicled the 20th century African American experience. She won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1950 for Annie Allen, becoming the first black woman to win the award. Other credits include Primer for Blacks (1980) and To Disembark (1981).
