George (Birdie) Tebbetts
Age: 86a lifelong "baseball guy" who played catcher for Detroit and Boston, managed Cincinnati and Milwaukee and did both in Cleveland; batted .270 lifetime and played in 1,162 games, including four All-Star games; his record as a manager was 748-705; a heart attack in 1965 ended his career as a manager and moved him into scouting in 1968; was given his nickname by his grandmother who said of his high-pitched voice, "he chirps like a bird". Tebbetts died of congestive heart failure.
