Meredith Baxter Biography
Meredith Baxter got her start on television in 1972 as one of the leads in CBS's Bridget Loves Bernie. The series was canceled after just one year, but she married her co-star, David Birney and went on to many roles in television. She received multiple Emmy nominations for her portrayal of Nancy Lawrence Maitland on Family. She played the mother, Elyse Keaton, on NBC's popular 80s sitcom, Family Ties. After Family Ties, Birney starred in and produced many made for TV movies. In 1994, she won a Daytime Emmy for playing a lesbian mother in a CBS Schoolbreak Special called Other Mothers.
Known for many years as Meredith Baxter-Birney, she has been married and divorced three times. On December 2, 2009 she came out as a lesbian during an interview on Today. She has been with her partner, Nancy Locke since 2005. She has five children from her previous marriages. Her memoir, Untied, was published in 2011. Fun fact: Baxter is the voice of Elise Sr., a reoccurring character on the animated series, Dan Vs.
