Musician who pioneered the funk style of rock in the 1970s with his band Parliament-Funkadelic. Nicknamed “Dr. Funkenstein,” Clinton is known for his outrageous costumes and marathon live shows as well as his innovative fusion of rock, R&B and psychedelic dance music. As a teenager in Plainfield, New Jersey, Clinton worked as a barber and sang in a doo-wop group. He moved to Detroit in 1967 and formed Funkadelic in the early 70s. Clinton released more than 30 albums, including Funkadelic (1970), One Nation Under a Groove (1978), Hey Man, Smell My Finger (1993) and The Awesome Power of a Fully Operational Mothership (1997). Parliament-Funkadelic was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland in 1997.
