Top Stories of the Week

  1. The maturity of Giants quarterback Kerry Collins—Collins led the Carolina Panthers to the NFC Championship game in 1996 before alcohol took over his life. He played himself off two teams, was arrested for DWI, went through rehab and was given another chance by the Giants. So far he's proven them right.
  2. The return of Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis—Lewis was involved in an ugly brawl outside the Cobalt Lounge in Atlanta after last year's Super Bowl that left two men dead. In a highly publicized murder trial, he pled guilty to obstruction of justice but all parties involved were acquitted of any other crime. Lewis won this year's Defensive Player of the Year award and is the backbone of the Ravens' defensive unit.
  3. The Ravens used to be the Cleveland Browns, before owner Art Modell moved them to Baltimore after the 1995 season. The new Cleveland Browns returned to the NFL in 1999 but Modell is still vilified in Cleveland.

Weirdest Story of the Week

On its way to Baltimore/Washington International Airport for the flight to Tampa, one of the Ravens' team buses crashed into a police cruiser, pinning it against a concrete barrier, and the other team bus bumped a police horse. No one, including the horse, was seriously hurt. "The first [bus] just kind of sideswiped the horse," said Ravens defensive tackle Tony Siragusa, "and the horse had a little tire mark on his butt. And then we were up on the highway, and we didn't know what happened."

"You know? As long as Dilfer's in the game, the Giants are never out of it."
