Charlotte Bobcats: Construction on Charlotte Bobcats Arena for the NBA expansion Charlotte Bobcats and the WNBA Charlotte Sting began with a ceremonial “groundblasting“ on July 29, 2003. The arena, which seats 19,026 for basketball (including 60 luxury suites) and 14,100 for hockey, was built by the City of Charlotte and cost an estimated $260 million. The building is located in Center City Charlotte bounded by East Trade, Fifth and North Caldwell streets and the South Corridor Light Rail Line. The Bobcats begin play in the NBA in 2004 and played their first season at the Charlotte Coliseum before moving to the new Charlotte Arena in November 2005 for the start of their second season.
