“The Double”

In 1994, John Andretti became the first driver to attempt "The Double," an auto racing double-header that involves racing in the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR Winston Cup Series' Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. In addition to the 1,100 miles of racing (600 possible laps) and nearly seven hours of drive time, the feat requires the driver to travel from Indianapolis to Charlotte, N.C. (430 miles) between races.
Three different drivers in four years have completed "The Double." Here is a look at their results. Laps refers to laps completed.

Note: Robby Gordon attempted "The Double" in 1997 but rain postponed the Indianapolis 500 until the following Monday. He tried again in 2000 but a three hour rain delay at Indianapolis caused him to miss the start of the Coca-Cola 600.
