The top 50 selections at the 39th annual NHL Entry Draft held June 23-24, 2001, in Sunrise, Fla. The order of the first 14 positions were determined by a draft lottery of non-playoff teams held April 10 in New York. Only the worst five teams from the 2000-01 regular season had the chance to win the first overall pick. No team could move up more than four spots in the draft order or drop more than one position. Positions 15 through 30 reflect regular season records in reverse order. The top 30 picks are first round selections and the remaining 20 are from the second round. (*) denotes compensatory pick.
