2000 NHL All-Star Game
The World 9, North America 4
50th NHL All-Star Game. Date: Feb. 6 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto; Coaches: Scotty Bowman, Detroit (World) and Pat Quinn, Toronto (North America); MVP: Pavel Bure, Florida right wing (World) — three goals, one assist.
For the third consecutive year, the NHL decided to abandon its usual all-star game format of Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference in favor of a game pitting the North American all-stars vs. the rest of the world's all-stars.
Starters were chosen by fan vote while reserves were selected by the NHL's Hockey Operations Department, after consultation with NHL general managers. Head coaches whose teams had the best winning percentage in the Eastern Conference (North America) and Western Conference (World) on Jan. 4 were named all-star head coaches.
Goaltender Roman Turek, left wing Patrik Elias and defenseman Dimitri Yushkevich were added to the World team as injury replacements for Dominik Hasek, Peter Forsberg and Kimmo Timonen, respectively.
Left wing Ray Whitney was added to the North American team as an injury replacement for Pierre Turgeon.
