Rocket Richard Award for the 1997-98 Hockey Season
Except for the Vezina Trophy and Adams Award, voting is done by a 54-member panel of the Pro Hockey Writers Association, while full PHWA membership voted for Masterton Trophy. Vezina Trophy voted on by NHL general managers and Adams Award by NHL broadcasters. Points awarded on 10–7–5–3–1 basis except for the Vezina Trophy and the Adams Award which are awarded 5–3–1.

Rocket Richard Award
The NHL Board of Governors created the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Award to be given to the league's leading goal scorer beginning with the 1998-99 season. Richard was the first player to score 50 goals in one season and 500 in a career.
