Begun in 1986, the Official World Golf Ranking (formerly the Sony World Ranking) combines the best golfers on the five PGA men's tours (U.S., Europe, South Africa, Japan and Australasia). Rankings are based on a rolling two-year period and weighted in favor of more recent results. Points are awarded after each worldwide tournament according to finish. Final point averages are determined by dividing a player's total points by the number of tournaments played over that two-year period (through Oct. 4, 1998).
