Poems of Emily Dickinson
Poems of Emily Dickinson (Published 1890–1896)
Emily Dickinson was, in her lifetime, a little known and little published poet; what works Dickinson did see published were often anonymous, and revised by her editors to be more conventional. Today she is universally regarded as one of America's most innovative and influential poets. Her life and works hold an enduring place in American culture.
The poetry collections reproduced here are the first collected editions of her poems, published after her death at the insistence of her younger sister. These works were also substantially edited and so don't completely reflect Dickinson's vision. The world wouldn't see her complete works unedited until 1955. The three series here are, however, the wildly popular printings that launched Dickinson into the cultural spotlight.
