William Hardy MURFREE, Congress, NC (1781-1827)
MURFREE William Hardy , a Representative from North Carolina; born in Hertford County, N.C., October 2, 1781; was graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1801; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Edenton, N.C.; also interested in agricultural pursuits; member of the State house of representatives in 1805 and 1812; elected as a Republican to the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Congresses (March 4, 1813-March 3, 1817); chairman, Committee on Public Expenditures (Fourteenth Congress); moved from Murfreesboro, N.C., to his estate in Williamson County, Tenn., in 1823 and died there on January 19, 1827; interment in Murfree Cemetery, northwest of Franklin, Williamson County, Tenn.
