John Jones ROANE, Congress, VA (1794-1869)
ROANE John Jones , a Representative from Virginia; born in Essex County, Va., October 31, 1794; completed preparatory studies; attended Rumford Academy in King William County, Va., and Princeton College, New Jersey, but did not graduate; engaged in agricultural pursuits; served in the War of 1812 as a private in the Fourth Regiment, Virginia Militia; member of the State house of delegates 1820-1823; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress (March 4, 1831-March 3, 1833); clerk in the United States Patent Office 1836-1851; special agent in the Treasury Department 1855-1867; died in Washington, D.C., December 18, 1869; interment in Glenwood Cemetery.
