John Charles BROPHY, Congress, WI (1901-1976)
BROPHY John Charles , a Representative from Wisconsin; born in Eagle, Walworth County, Wis., October 8, 1901; attended the public and parochial schools of Milwaukee, Wis.; was graduated from St. Patrick's and Marquette Academy; enlisted in the United States Navy during the First World War and served as a seaman from August 1919 until honorably discharged in May 1921; worked as a mechanic 1922-1938; alderman of the city of Milwaukee from April 1939 to December 1946; unsuccessful candidate for election in 1942 to the Seventy-eighth Congress; elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress (January 3, 1947-January 3, 1949); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1948 to the Eighty-first Congress and for election in 1950 to the Eighty-second Congress; engaged in sales and public relations until retirement in 1969; resided in Milwaukee, Wis., where he died December 26, 1976; interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
