Bill Green LOWREY, Congress, MS (1862-1947)
LOWREY Bill Green , a Representative from Mississippi; born in Kossuth, Alcorn County, Miss., May 25, 1862; attended the public schools and Blue Mountain Academy, Blue Mountain, Miss.; was graduated from Mississippi College at Clinton in 1887; was a student at Tulane University, New Orleans, La., in 1888 and 1889; professor in Blue Mountain College, Blue Mountain, Miss., 1889-1898; president of the college 1898-1911; president of the Amarillo (Tex.) Military Academy 1911-1916; field secretary for Hillman College and Mississippi College at Clinton and Blue Mountain College at Blue Mountain, 1916-1920; vice president of Blue Mountain College in 1920 and 1921; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-seventh and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1921-March 3, 1929); was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1928 to the Seventy-first Congress; served as clerk of the United States Court for the Northern District of Mississippi 1929-1935; died in Olive Branch, De Soto County, Miss., September 2, 1947; interment in Blocker Cemetery.
