Benjamin WILSON, Congress, WV (1825-1901)
WILSON Benjamin , a Representative from West Virginia; born in Wilsonburg, Harrison County, Va. (now West Virginia), April 30, 1825; attended the Northwestern Virginia Academy at Clarksburg and the law school in Staunton, Va.; was admitted to the bar in 1848 and commenced practice in Clarksburg, Harrison County, Va. (now West Virginia); Commonwealth attorney for Harrison County 1852-1860; member of the State constitutional convention in 1861; member of the State constitutional convention of West Virginia in 1871; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1872; unsuccessful candidate for election in 1872 to the Forty-third Congress; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1875-March 3, 1883); Assistant Attorney General of the United States 1885-1893; died in Clarksburg, W.Va., April 26, 1901; interment in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
