Clouds are little drops of water or ice hanging in the atmosphere. A ceilometer measures the height of clouds.

| Cirrus | Mare's tails | 4 miles + | thin, feathery |
| Cirrocumulus | Mackerel sky | 4 miles + | small patches of white |
