bed and breakfast (B&B or BnB), small business that offers guests rooms and breakfast, usually in a private home or apartment. In a B&B, service and meal preparation is typically provided by the people living in the residence rather than a professional staff, and the residence's facilities are often with and by the guests, though there may be separate bathrooms. B&Bs, which may be a main source of income or a side business for the host, are in the United States an outgrowth of the custom, dating to colonial times, of homeowners offering travelers a place to stay overnight if there was no inn or other lodging available.
