Staffordshire Hoard, archaelogical find discovered (2009) near Lichfield, Staffordshire, England, consisting of more than 1,500 gold and silver items dating from Anglo-Saxon times. Several times richer than the treasure found at Sutton Hoo, the hoard contains mainly martial items of high quality metalwork that largely date from the 7th cent., when the area was in the kingdom of Mercia. Items from the hoard are in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery; The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent; Lichfield Cathedral; and Tamworth Castle, Tamworth.
