Manabe, Syukuro,
1931– , Japanese climatologist and meteorologist, D.Sc. University of
Tokyo, 1958. Manabe has been instrumental in the development of climate
science and his work has formed the basis of current climate modeling. He
was one of the first researchers to demonstrate the relationship between
increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and increaing temperatures. He
shared the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics with Giorgio Parisi and Klaus Hasselman for "the physical modeling
of Earth's climate, quantifying variability and reliability predicting
global warming." Manabe is a senior meteorologist at Princeton University's
Program in Atomospheric and Oceanic Sciences.
