Kerkrade

Kerkrade kĕrkˈräˌdə [key], city (1994 pop. 52,848), Limburg prov., SE Netherlands, on the German border. It is one of Europe's oldest coal-mining centers. The activity began there in the 12th cent. but ended as of the 1970s.
