Sulmona

Sulmona so͞olmôˈnä [key], town (1991 pop. 25,454), Abruzzi, central Italy, on the Gizio River. A commercial and light industrial center, it lies in a small, fertile plain enclosed by Apennine peaks. Of note are the Palazzo dell'Annunziata (15th–16th cent.), the Gothic Napoli gate, and the Cathedral of San Panfilo.
