Prishtinë

Prishtinë, Prishtina, or Priština prēˈshtĭnä [key], city (2011 pop. 198,214), E central Kosovo, the capital and largest city of Kosovo. Prishtinë is a commercial center with diverse industries, including woodworking, textiles, and food processing. Lead and silver are mined nearby. The heart of the Albanian Kosovar separatist movement in the late 20th cent., the city suffered much damage during the 1999 Kosovo crisis (see Kosovo; Yugoslavia). Prishtinë was a capital of the Serbian empire in the 14th cent.
