Cuyahoga Valley National Park [key], 32,950 acres (13,334 hectares), in the Cuyahoga River valley between Akron and Cleveland, NE Ohio; est. as a national recreation area 1974, designated a national park 2000. The park, which in the late 1800s was an area to escape from the city for carriage and boat rides, preserves the rural character of the river. It includes Brandywine and Blue Hen falls, the Brandywine Gorge and Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath trails, a scenic railroad, and numerous historic buildings.
