Jeonju

Jeonju or Chonju jônˈjo͞oˈ [key], city (1995 pop. 563,406), capital of North Jeolla (Cholla) prov., SW South Korea. It is a transportation, industrial, and agricultural center in the heart of the country's most densely populated and richest rice-growing area. Industries include food processing and the production of paper, plastics, batteries, and trucks and buses. The city was the capital of the Hu (or Later) Paekche dynasty (892–936). The founder of the Choson (Yi) dynasty, Korea's last imperial line, is buried in Jeonju.
