Huainan

Huainan hwī-nän [key], city (1994 est. pop. 769,200), N central Anhui prov., China. Established after 1949 as the center of China's chief coal-mining region, it is the site of a major colliery. Chemicals, iron, steel, and machinery are produced, and food and tobacco are processed.
