Eustace, Alan (Robert Alan Eustace), 1956–, American computer scientist and adventurer, b. Pine Hills, Fla., Ph.D. Univ. of Central Florida, 1984. He worked for Digital Equipment Corp., Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, and other electronics companies before joining Google as vice president of engineering in 2002. He became senior vice president of engineering and research in 2006 and senior vice president of knowledge, overseeing Google's search function, in 2011; he retired in 2015. Also an aircraft pilot and parachutist, he made a parachute jump of 135,890 ft (41,419.3 m) in 2014, breaking Felix Baumgartner's record; Eustace's total freefall distance was 123,414 ft (37,616.6 m).
