Djokovic, Novak, 1987–, Serbian tennis player, b. Belgrade. He began winning European championships at age 14, and played in his first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open, in 2005. He won the Australian Open in 2008 and 2011–13; and Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in 2011, facing Rafael Nadal in the final at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, and the 2012 Australian Open. He won Wimbledon again in 2014–15 and the U.S. Open in 2015, defeating Roger Federer each time. He has since won the Australian Open in 2015–16 and 2019–20, for a record-setting eight wins there, the French Open for the first time in 2016, Wimbledon in 2018 and, besting Federer again, 2019, and the U.S. Open in 2018.
