Curry, Michael Bruce, 1953–, American Episcopal bishop, b. Chicago, grad. Hobart College, 1975, Yale Divinity School, 1978. Ordained in 1978, he served as rector of churches in Winston-Salem, N.C., Lincoln Heights, Ohio, and Baltimore before becoming bishop of North Carolina (2000–2015). In 2015 he was elected to succeed Katharine Jefferts Schori as presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, becoming the first African American to head the church. Focusing on evangelism, social justice, and racial reconciliation, his writings include Crazy Christians: A Call to Follow Jesus (2013) and Songs My Grandma Sang (2015).
