Vujanović, Filip, 1954–, Montenegran political leader, president of Montenegro (2003–), b. Belgrade, Yugoslavia (now Serbia). A lawyer by training, he worked (1978–93) in the municipal and district courts and as an attorney. Under Prime Minister Milo Djukanović, he served as minister of justice (1993–95) and of the interior (1995–98), and following Djukanović's election as Montenegrin president, Vujanović succeeded him as prime minister (1998–2002). Resigning amid a crisis over plans to replace the Yugoslav federation with a loose Serbian-Montenegrin union, he then became parliamentary speaker. In Dec., 2002, and Feb., 2003, he won presidential elections that were nullified due to low voter turnout; he was finally elected in May, 2003. When Montenegro declared its independence in 2006, Vujanović became the nation's first president. He was reelected in 2008.
