Philippe, Édouard Charles, 1970–, French lawyer and political leader, b. Rouen, grad. Paris Institute of Political Studies, 1992, National School of Administration, 1997. He worked as a lawyer for France's Council of State (1997–2002), then was an official for the center-right Union for a Popular Movement party (later the Republicans; 2002–4), public affairs director for the state nuclear group AREVA (2007–10), and mayor of Le Havre (2010–17, 2020–). From 2017 to 2020 he was premier of France under President Macron. Philippe, who also writes political novels, has been a member of France's national assembly, representing Seine-Maritime, since 2012.
