Price, George Cadle, 1919–2011, Belizean political leader, b. Belize City. He studied for the priesthood in the United States and Guatemala before returning home (1944) to British Honduras and entering politics. Price was a founder (1950) of the centrist People's United party and served as its leader from 1956 to 1996. He was elected to the Belize City council in 1947 and was mayor from 1958 to 1962. Becoming the colony's first minister (1961) and, when British Honduras attained self-rule, its premier (1964), Price led the independence movement throughout the 1960s and 70s. He was the first prime minister of independent Belize (1981–84) and served a second term (1989–93).
