Brees, Drew (Andrew Christopher Brees) [key], 1979–, American football player, b. Austin, Tex. At Purdue in 2000 he quarterbacked the Boilermakers to the Big 10 championship (shared with Michigan and Northwestern) and a trip to the Rose Bowl. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 2001 and became their starting quarterback in the 2002 season, replacing Doug Flutie (who replaced Brees as starter for several games in the next season). Brees joined the New Orleans Saints in 2006, helping to turn around the team, which made the NFC championsip game. He led the Saints to victory in Super Bowl XLIV (2010) and was named that game's MVP. In 2011 Brees led the NFL in passing completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns as well as completion percentage. In 2018 he broke the career records for pass completions and passing yards, and the next year he broke the career record for touchdown passes.
