Dargomijsky, Aleksandr Sergeyevich [key], 1813–69, Russian composer. He and Glinka brought nationalism to Russian music, strongly influencing the next generation of composers. Among his works are three operas: Esmeralda, (1847); Russalka (1856); and The Stone Guest (1872).
